Another beautiful village of Akrotiri, Stavros, is located 3,8 km away from Chorafakia, at the northernmost tip of Akrotiri. Today it is a resort with great tourist infrastructure, starting from a small fishing village. Under the mountain that protects Stavros, the central beach of Stavros extends, right next to the harbor, in a very sheltered bay. The white sand, the tranquil and clean sea and of course the turquoise and shallow waters, attract tourists during the summer months, from all around the world. The beach is well organized, with showers, umbrellas, water sports and, of course, a unique scenery that will fascinate you!
There are cafes, bars and accommodation for every taste in the area and can accommodate guests who choose Stavros to spend a quiet vacation by the sea and the windless beach. The picturesque port gathers people from all around, especially on windy days, as Stavros is not affected by the winds and very safe for chrildren to play.
The beach of Stavros, became famous with the characteristic rock, all over the world in the 1960s. There in 1964, the most characteristic scene of the movie “Zorba the Greek” was shot with Anthony Quinn in the leading role dancing an unforgettable sirtaki.
Transportation from Chania to Stavros is frequent and is done by bus many times a day. In a short distance from Stavros you can visit other villages such as Kounoupidiana, the Gouvernetou Monastery, Arkoudospilio and many beautiful beautiful beaches of Akrotiri. With a rental car, moving from Stavros to other destinations will be very easy.
